After two decades of serving coastal Peru as church planters, missionaries Dave and Evelyn Stone founded New Life Prenatal Center in the capitol of Lima. This center reaches thousands of women in crisis each year and is a unique evangelistic compassion ministry. The center now has seven satellite facilities and is growing by leaps and bounds. As a result, pastors and missionaries all over South America have been watching the Stones.
Ultrasound is a key component of prenatal services at the center. Showing a pregnant woman her developing baby has saved many lives at high risk for abortion, but the equipment that Life Matters gave them back in 2003 was growing obsolete. Not only was the technology outdated, but functioning erratically.
Evelyn located a good second-hand machine at a reasonable price, but it sold to someone else before they could purchase it. Then, through a Christian Peruvian doctor, they located a new machine with all the characteristics of the original one we had wanted to purchase and 4D capability! "This was a machine we have only been able to dream about, and the price of $34,000 kept it in that category!"
Making a long story short, the doctor and his partners decided to donate half the cost and charge the center just $17,500 -- an amount their mission agency had agreed to lend them. With a grant from Life Matters and other gifts, Centro Prenatal Vida Nueva was able to pay back the loan and complete the purchase.
Evelyn became Life Matters' International Training Consultant in 2001. She has traveled to Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, India, Kenya, Liberia and the Philippines sharing the message of pro-life ministry.
Today, Life Matters Worldwide partners with Evelyn to host a biennial conference in Peru. Nationals and missionaries who are involved in pro-life ministry all over South America convene for encouragement and additional training.
Here are Evelyn and Life Matter's president Tom Lothamer chatting after a recent conference:

Interestingly enough, the Center has begun ministering to women who have long served as volunteers and are now elderly. Pro-life ministry in Peru comes full circle! To learn more, visit the Centro Prenatal Vida Nueva website or Facebook page.
