Sometimes God surprises you with the opportunities He lays in our path. In 2014 we received a call from a local businessman who said, “How’d you like to meet five Honduran mayors?” He thought we might be interested because the civic leaders were looking for ways to bring ultrasound equipment to their village health clinics.
President Tom Lothamer did meet them and a plan was set in motion. When equipment became available in the spring of 2015, funds were raised and we sent it to a clinic in San Antonio, Santa Barbara, Honduras. Two more machines became available in August, they were purchased and shipped in January 2016.
Our intent is that local missionaries will connect with the clinics to offer women the Gospel of Christ and alternatives to abortion. Abortion is illegal in Honduras, but the rate of clandestine abortions is high.
Working with his local church, the businessman also arranged for a girls volleyball outreach called Our Serve to spend time with Honduran girls teaching the game and hosting tournaments. 150 or so young women from 10 schools were enrolled to attend. The goal was to encourage them to save sex for marriage.
