I am planning an abortion because I'm in no position to take care of a child and the child's father said he won't be able to take care of it as well. I know abortion is wrong, and I really don't want to do it, but I think it's the best option. —Mary*
I recently weaned my one-year-old baby. I had her prematurely amid some health issues. I had my first baby too amid some health issues. Now my period is delayed, I fear I cannot afford another pregnancy financially and health-wise, even though I have a supportive husband. I strongly believe God hates murder, but my heart feels weak, so I wanted to talk to a believer. —Odette*
I'm currently 3 months pregnant. I have four kids already—ages 9, 7, 5, and 1. I'm a strong believer, and I've prayed about this matter since the day I found out I'm expecting. I'm unemployed, my husband works, and I know God has a plan for me. However having another kid is just not good. We have no place for another baby. I'm so confused. I'm ashamed to even mention abortion to my husband. Would it be wrong if I go ahead with abortion? —Geena*
I am 39 and pregnant with our third child. I have a 5-year-old and a 3-year-old. Though I am married I am concerned about our finances with having a third child. Everything in our city is expensive. We cannot afford it. My husband is all for another child even though he's concerned as well. I am afraid. —Natalie*
These are real emails, but we've changed the names. We received them before COVID-19 and massive job losses hit our country, so you can imagine that the situations facing people now are even more severe.
Pregnancies complicate already difficult situations. People want to know why God allows them to become pregnant when He knows how hard it will be.
Of course, God does know and does not explain Himself, other than to assure us He is wise and loving. How would you counsel these women? How do we?
Mainly we expand on what we've written in answer to Questions about abortion and related pages on our website. They've searched the internet for questions about what God thinks of abortion and whether He forgives after abortion and made their way to the Need Help? section of our website. We do our best to encourage them further from God's word, and connect them to pro-life pregnancy care centers.
You can read how we answered one fellow and his wife in our October copy-ready bulletin insert/flyer: A hard time to be pregnant.
God is the Giver of life. He has made every human being after His image. His word tells us it is wrong to kill human beings. As we pray with people for wisdom in their situations, we also assure them He won't lead them to have an abortion. It cannot be His will. It is never something that His Spirit will guide us to do. He will provide a way of escape.
